A big part of my youngest’s Kindergarten class is the daily helper. The day that your name is called for class helper is the equivalent to being a five year old lotto winner. It is a BIG deal. For this month’s 10 on 10 I was able to capture my little lotto winner.
As class helper you get a special chair.
Your name makes the morning announcement on the board.
You add the current date to the calendar. Sometimes you are lucky and you are helper after a long weekend. When this happens you get to put up three dates instead of just one. This is like having the bonus numbers in lotto and Harper was lucky enough to have those numbers.
You add a straw to the box and then count the number of straws. This shows how many school days you have been together as a class. When Harper was helper, the class had been together for 12 days (keep in mind we had a strike at the beginning of the school year). You then get to write the number on the strip.
You get to use the pointer and lead the class in reading the monthly poem.
There are a few more perks to the special job that launch you from being an average student to rockstar status, like being first in line for recess, but I just captured a few of the morning perks.
Now head over to Maria’s blog to see what she has come up with for the November edition of our Canadian blog circle.
