How NOT to photograph your own kids….

The other day we had the most glorious weather and I decided to take my girls out for a photo shoot. It was an epic fail!! I usually never have any real problems photographing my own children even though they practically live in front of the camera but this day I practically layed out the silver platter for disaster. So if you are looking to have a photo shoot with your child that is filled with tears and misery than just follow these simple steps:

1. Take your kids on a really long, high energy play date with their favourite buddies – make sure that the play date runs at least 2+ hours;

2. Just in case the play date was not enough, walk to the location the long way (oh, and be sure to invite the play date friends along);

3. Arrive at the location you have chosen without having a clue what the light is going to be like, then proceed to stand around waiting for the light to get better (this really helps speed up boredom);

4. DO NOT FEED THEM LUNCH;

5. Remove the kids jackets and push past the usual ten minutes of shooting – freeze the children; and finally

6. After thoroughly freezing your children, offer up tons of bribes which include things like small ponies because you still have a ten minute walk back to the car!

Thankfully, after putting up with all my requests, my children came away from this process relatively unharmed and still gave me some great shots. Bless their little hearts.

Happy Tuesday!!
