A woman is pregnant for 9 months. That is 274 days. 6,570 days. 394, 200 minutes. I would have added the seconds but it was a really long number that included a small equation and anyone who knows me, knows that math and numbers are not my jam.
While the approximate time frame for a pregnancy is fairly consistent, the pregnancy experience is vastly different for each woman. Of all the women I have photographed, no two stories were the same.
Here are a few amazing facts about pregnancy that you may not have known:
A woman’s uterus can expand up to 500 times it’s size during pregnancy. Kinda crazy when you think about it!!
Not only does the uterus grow in size so does the heart. A woman’s heart grows bigger during pregnancy to help pump all the extra blood around the body.
Your partner may experience pregnancy symptoms. We all joke about it but it is actually true. This strange phenomenon is known as “Couvade Syndrome”. Men have gained weight, had nausea and swelling right along side their pregnant partners.
Babies cry in the womb. Studies have shown that babies begin to cry silently in the womb at as early as 28 weeks.
Women can crave non-food items. 30% of pregnant women get this eating disorder known as Pica. Cravings can include odd items such as soap, chalk, paper and stones.
No matter what your story is, this is a beautiful time to be photographed.
