Baby Wyatt

A good friend and fellow photographer messaged me one day and asked “Would you consider coming to my house and photographing my client’s newborn.”  Normally I would not consider travelling four hours for a newborn session but it was a really good excuse to sneak in a visit with my “funnest” friend ever!  I don’t care if there is no such word as “funnest” –  if you know Lisa, you know there is no other word to describe her.

I haven’t photographed newborns on location in what seems like a million years.  I was really nervous I would forget something so I made a detailed list and started organizing my selected items.  You don’t realize how much stuff you have until you need to shove it in the back seat of your F150 pickup.  Either way, I was excited to hang out with my friend and meet my new tiny client.

I planned on leaving for my friend’s house at 2pm.  That would have me there for around dinner with plenty of time to relax and catch up.  Sounded good on paper anyway.  While concocting this well thought out plan I forgot that my kid had a hair appointment at 1pm.  She was getting her fun summer color of blue and pink done.  Ok, so I head out at 3pm.  Still more than enough time.

Of course, kids appointment goes over, really over.  I am now packing my truck at 4pm.  Panicking about how late I am.  I quickly load the truck, check and double check my list and head out!  About an hour into my drive, I start thinking about how much I need a coffee and that I will hit the next drive through.  I reach for my wallet and its not there.  I pull over and search my fully packed truck and IT IS NOT THERE!  I then remember I took it out of my truck to make my latest online purchase and left it sitting on my damn desk AT HOME.  AN HOUR AWAY.  I had to head home and get the wallet.  My 4 hour drive has now turned into 6.

In the end, I arrived at my girlfriends house at 9pm that night.  A few drinks on her deck and then off to bed.  It really is about quality not quantity.

In the morning I got to photograph the most adorable little girl and meet two of the most amazing moms.  It made the chaos of getting to this session worth every frustrating second!!
