Sometimes the best decisions are the ones made in the moment, and that’s exactly how this wonderful family photography session came to be. Lindsay spotted my promotion and thought—why not? And I’m so glad she did. What began as a spur-of-the-moment idea turned into an unforgettable evening by the water, capturing a family filled with energy, love, and connection.
Meet Lindsay and Graham, along with their two amazing boys, Grayson (14) and Parker (12). Like many families, their days are full—between sports, school, and the everyday busyness of life, it can be hard to find time to slow down. But that’s why these moments matter so much. Portraits like these are more than photos—they’re reminders of who we are right now, in this season, before everything shifts and changes again.

What struck me most about photographing this family was how beautifully different they all are, and yet, how perfectly they fit together. They describe themselves as active and always on the move, and you can feel that energy just by being around them. Both boys are not only academically driven but also passionate about hockey, golf, skiing, and mountain biking. You can tell that their curiosity and drive are qualities they’ve learned from watching their parents.

One of my favorite things to ask families in a family photography session is what they love doing together, and for Lindsay and Graham’s family, the answer was easy: travel. And if they can be near the water, even better. They love exploring the world as a family, and one of their most treasured memories is from a recent trip to Costa Rica. While staying at their accommodation, they happened upon a sloth in its natural habitat. It was an unexpected and magical experience—especially for Parker, their youngest—watching the sloth up close, completely relaxed in its treetop home. It’s one of those shared moments that will stay with them forever.

During our family photography session, I saw that same sense of wonder reflected in their eyes as we explored the rocky shoreline together. The peaceful backdrop of ocean and mountains felt like the perfect fit for a family who loves to be near the water. The light was soft, the laughter was genuine, and even though this was “just a spur of the moment” idea, the portraits we captured together tell a much bigger story—one of connection, love, and the adventure of growing up together.

Family portraits are about pausing life, even if just for a moment, to celebrate now. And I’m honored that Lindsay and her crew trusted me to freeze this chapter of their story in time.
