Oh…2020 | Williams Lake Photographer

I have mixed feelings about this past year. While it was the worst year ever it was also the best. My family was out of work for five months but we had the best time reconnecting with each other without the stress of schedules. We were no longer eating out in restaurants but staying in, saving money and bringing back the joy of cooking as a family. We pulled our children from school. Even though it added a lot more work on my part – it freed up so much time to do the things we wanted. Plus, I love having my kids around. We only have them for such a short time and this allows me to maximize our time together.

This year pushed me out of my comfort zone. I tried new genres of photography that did not require human subjects. I photographed dogs. Lots and lots of dogs. I also started creating composites again. Learning new genres is almost like starting to learn photography all over again. Had it not been for the insanity of 2020 I doubt I would have even considered it. I am again, extremely thankful.

So even though COVID-19 had brought a lot of uncertainty, loss, sadness and stress to 2020, it also gave me new insight on what life is really about. It has stripped away years of society telling me that more is better and success is more. Well, a pandemic begs to differ and for that I am extremely thankful.

Here are my favourite images of 2020….
